Physiology as a department was established as far back as 1978. Undergraduate programme however did not commence until 1991/1992 academic session. Having received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) for the B.Sc. programmess in the Faculty of Health Sciences (now College of Health Sciences), University of Ilorin, the Department of Physiology commenced the B.Sc. program in Physiology during the aforementioned academic session. The program started with the 100 level courses and the faculty of science (now split into the Faculty of Life Sciences and the Faculty of Physical Sciences). The pioneering class completed 200 level during the 1992/1993 sessions but had to wait till 1997 before graduation. The delay was due to the nationwide interruption of academic programs following industrial crisis of 1996 in Nigerian Universities. The department also graduated the second set in 1998 (that is, during the 1996/1997 session) The BSc program runs parallel to the medical program and it operates the course credit system
