Biography

Aboyeji Lukuman OYEWOLE earned his B.Sc. in Physiology in 2007 at University of Ilorin, Nigeria. He then proceeded to the same institution and completed his master, and Ph.D. degrees in Physiology. He did his postdoctoral training at University of California San Francisco, United States.  He has served as staff adviser on academic, member of departmental research ethical committee, Examination Officer, among others. Oyewole’s lab studies Neuroscience with bias for inflammation, pain and aging, the trio are inevitable physiological phenomenon in living things. The lab has two broad interwoven goals. The first is to understand how inflammation and energy metabolism support healthy aging of brain neurons. The second is to understand how disruption in inflammation and metabolism contribute to aging-related neurodegenerative diseases and chronic pain. His favourite neurodegenerative diseases are Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, and his approach targets developing new therapeutic strategies that could check pro-degenerative inflammation and energy levels.
